Langford on Soaps: Meet Alejandro, Telemundo’s Gay on "Dangerous Relationships"
NEWSBRIEFS
OLTL’s Michael Easton makes the move to General Hospital.
Last week saw the end of another US daytime soap when One Life To Liveaired it’s last episode. The show came to a close on a cliffhanger when we learned that Victor Lord Jr., who had been believed to be dead was in fact alive. Of course, this cliffhanger only happened because it was widely believed that OLTL would continue online thanks to Prospect Park, who bought the rights to the show from ABC and made plans to turn it into a web series.
As we previously reported, that plan fell through days after the show stopped taping and there was no way to go back and tinker with the show’s close. But perhaps that cliffhanger will be resolved anyway. Several stars from OLTL, including Roger Howarth, who plays Todd Manning and whom As The World Turnsviewers might recall played Paul Ryan on that show, will be moving to General Hospitalfor a storyline to begin in February. Kassie DiPaiva (Blair Manning), Micheal Easton (John McBain) and Kristen Alderson (Starr Manning) are also former OLTL stars joining the GH cast.
How long before General Hospital stops seeing patients?
But Howarth and company shouldn’t get too comfortable in Port Charles, the fictional setting of GH. GH is currently the longest running daytime soap, but it too may soon come to an end. ABC President Paul Lee was recently asked about the soap’s future and he said that a decision hadn’t been made about when or if ABC will renew the show.
That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement for the soap, especially since it’s widely known that Katie Couric’s talk show starts in September and will be looking for a time slot. Besides, ABC said they didn’t know the futures of All My Childrenor One Life To Live and we all know what those futures ultimately came to be. And soon fans won’t even have SoapNet to go to see reruns or old episodes of their favorite soaps. That cable channel will be reverting to Disney Jr. in the coming months.
Kevin Aponte plays Alejandro, the closeted gay teen on Dangerous Relationships.
And finally this week, a new gay makes his debut on television next Monday when Telemundo begins airing their new telenovela Dangerous Relationships. We previously reported that this is Telemundo’s version of Fiscia O Qumicia, the teen/high school soap that aired in Spain for a number of years. That show featured Javier Calvo as Fer, a gay student who was one of the show’s most beloved characters. This shows’ version of ‘Fer’ will be named Alejandro Portillo and he’ll be played by Kevin Aponte.
Alex Hernandez plays Sebastian, the teen of Alejandro’s dreams
As the series begins, Alejandro is secretly gay and lusting after his pal Sebastian, played by Alex Hernandez. Will Alejandro and Sebastian ever be any more than friends? I guess we’ll have to find out when DR starts next week.
That’s a wrap for this edition of Langford on Soaps. See you next time!
